πŸ”΄πŸŸ’ Dollywood's Tasting Pass and Celebration Hall Buffet Info for 2023 πŸŸ’πŸ”΄

My Blog Post Title Hi Everyone,
I have a couple of updates about the Smoky Mountain Christmas food options for you today.

πŸ”΅ First, The Celebration Hall Buffet (Country Fair Area) is continuing from the previous festival into the Smoky Mtn Christmas Festival.

πŸ”Ή One great way to access the Celebration Hall is to use the Handicapable pathway behind Dogs N Taters, that runs alongside the rampage ride, under the train and then boom, you're right there.  As opposed to going up the hill towards the Village, crossing the tracks, and down the hill into Country Fair.

Click Here to Buy Tickets at least 24 hours in advance, if you like, and you can read more details as well.

https://www.dollywood.com/themepark/dining/christmas-festival-buffet/

Here are the menu offerings - subject to change, it says!  Click image to Enlarge.

Here's a recent picture of the Celebration Hall.  I took this b/c they razed a little building, you can see how the pavement is different, but now there's plenty of space to linger!

πŸ”΅ Second, Dollywood has released information about its popular Tasting Pass for Smoky Mountain Christmas, so let's dig into it.  All this info comes from Dollywood.com/themepark/dinding/christmas-tasting pass - LINK HERE.

Updates to "Hotels With High Ratings Blog Article"

My Blog Post Title

Hi Everyone,

I'm excited to announce that I've updated my blog post about the top hotels in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee! This is one of my most popular articles, and I know you all get a lot of use out of it. I love being able to help you out with practical information, and I hope you find this update helpful.

In the article you will see two new hotel newsy things that I share, but I will share them again here - since you're here and all.

1) A brand new Adult (Marriott Bonvoy) Hotel (Row 39) is scheduled to open in September 2023, and that may be of interest to some of you.  Read an article about it here:  https://tinyurl.com/4dhh7vaj

From the article:

Get ready to go back in time for your vacation. Way back in time.

The Wayback is a groovy, retro-themed hotel mostly for adults opening in Pigeon Forge between Flapjack's Pancake Cabin and the Jurassic Jungle Boat Ride.

Inspired by old roadside motels in Palm Springs, the hotel is hoping to provide a "vibrant escape amidst the high energy of downtown Pigeon Forge."

The 134-room hotel is expected to open in early September, according to general manager Marty Rothchild, and is developed by Sevierville-based company Aatmos. It's a Tribute portfolio hotel, part of the Marriott family.

Marriott Bonvoy is Marriott's loyalty program for frequent guests. This hotel is geared towards its members, who enjoy a variety of amenities as part of their stay. Non-members are also welcome at this hotel, but they do not receive the same amenities as members. I wanted to point out this distinction so that you can make an informed decision about whether to become a Marriott Bonvoy member before booking your stay.

2) Country Cascades - Row 25 on Spreadsheet - Recently announced a new $14 million dollar expansion to its indoor water park offerings.  It's scheduled to open in 2025.  You can read more and see renderings here:  WATE TV news

Dollywood Weather Alert for Tuesday December 27th, 2022 - CLOSED TUESDAY

My Blog Post Title

UPDATE 12/27/2022 - Hi Everyone, Dollywood has updated their operations schedule for Tuesday and decided to remain closed Today, Tuesday, December 27th, 2022.

πŸ¦‹πŸ¦‹

Monday's forecast in Knoxville was that we would have a clipper system quickly pass through and bring about a half inch of dry snow.  Well, instead, it snowed for 12 hours and we got a couple of inches of snow and some areas around here received more than that, so I am not surprised by this decision after looking at some social media posts of Dollywood yesterday.  All the water features were frozen over, with large icicles dangling about.  The parking lot looked like an icy mess.  Today is the first day above freezing since last Thursday - it's going to take some time to resemble normal again.

If you're in the area there is still tons of stuff to do!  Here's a small list of options:

  • Ober Gatlinburg.  You can ride the aerial tram from the station in downtown Gatlinburg up the mountain.  Skis and Snowboards are available for rent at the top.
  • Mountain Coasters - I've lost track of how many there are right now, but here's a few - Smoky Mountain Alpine Coaster and Goats on the Roof, both in Wears Valley.  The newest one is at Sky Ranch across from Tanger Outlets.  Rowdy Bear has numerous coasters in different styles as well as snow tubing indoor and outdoor.  Rocky Top coaster near Dollywood.  There are two others in Gatlinburg adjacent to Hillbilly Golf.  I know I am missing a few others.
  • Mountain Mile behind The Island - several activities and thrill rides to choose from.
  • The Island in Pigeon Forge has several rides and the giant wheel.  Plus, lots of restaurants to pick from...and shows to see.
  • Anakeesta - I believe it is open today 9am to 9pm.
  • Gatlinburg Aquarium.
  • Gatlinburg Skylift and bridge - they're open today.
  • Shopping - no shortage of that!   Five Oaks comes to mind first.  Shopaholics will enjoy that, and there are many more options than that.
  • Titanic Museum
  • Wonderworks Museum
  • Dave and Busters
Good luck everyone, stay warm.  The forecast for the rest of the week looks warmer!

Dollywood Weather Alert for Monday, December 26th. Delayed Opening

My Blog Post Title

Hi Everyone, please see the weather alert, below, for Dollywood for Monday December 26th.

Keep handy Dollywood's Facebook Page and Twitter Page for the most updated information.

I was just looking at Monday's weather and a clipper system is expected to pass through the region after noon, which may create another opportunity for snow.  That would likely be reason enough for Dollywood to make more calls about their operating schedule - so stay tuned.    If I discover any new news to share about Monday, I'll update this post as soon as Im able to.  Watch this space.

🚨 New Video 🚨 Dollywood's Smoky Mountain Christmas 2022!

My Blog Post Title

Hi Everyone,

My video for Dollywood's Smoky Mountain Christmas 2022 has published and I hope you'll take the time to watch it!  Let me know your thoughts in the comments below.

I arrived before the sun set, so I was able to see some of the park before darkness set in.  I take in Showstreet, Market Square and Rivertown Junction before watching the Smoky Mountain String Band's Appalachian Christmas show at the Back Porch Theater.  From there, I go back to Showstreet and continue around Glacier Ridge towards the Wonderful Christmas Show, also known as the Christmas Tree Show.  I backtrack just a bit through Wilderness Grove, then I continue clockwise around the park showing you Wilderness Pass, the Northern Lights, and Craftsman's Valley.  From the old tunnel I check out the Village and Peppermint Valley/Country Fair areas.  I take the back path towards Rivertown Junction again, then go through Jukebox Junction, Adventures in Imagination and one last, I promise, look at Showstreet and the Palace Theater.  Plus, I'll show you some of the cool Christmas merchandise I found when I was at the park.  I do all of that and hardly say a word 😁.  So, sit back, relax and enjoy this Christmas trip through Dollywood!

Here are some teasers of what you'll see in the video - in no particular order.

PIGEON FORGE, Tenn. — It's nearly the most wonderful time of the year: Dolly Parton is about to star in a new Christmas special!

"Dolly Parton's Mountain Magic Christmas" will premiere on WBIR and other NBC stations on Thursday, December 1, at 8/7c. It will also be available on NBC's streaming service, Peacock.

NBC released a teaser trailer for the movie this week, which you can check out below.

Earlier this summer, Dolly was spotted filming at Dollywood with celebrities such as Willy Nelson and Jimmie Fallon. Several passholders at the theme park were able to take videos and photos of Dolly.

Other stars in the movie include actress and comedian Ana Gasteyer, Billy Ray Cyrus and his daughter Miley Cyrus, country artist Jimmie Allen, Christian rock artist Zach Williams, and more.

The movie-musical is set in Dollywood and tells the backstage story of making a network TV special.

"This sentimental holiday movie takes viewers on a journey through time as Parton is visited by the Three Wise Men. The entertainer is taught valuable lessons, ultimately challenging her notions of the real magic of Christmas," NBC said.

🎠🎑🎒Dollywood's Weather Guidelines for Rides! 🎠🎑🎒

My Blog Post Title

 Hi everyone,

I see lots of folks asking "Do the rides operate during Dollywood's Smoky Mountain Christmas? The answer is Yes!  The two water rides closed for the season at the end of October this year, but aside from that, yes, they run the rides with an eye on the temperature.

Rides will close at certain temperatures and precipitation may also cause some rides to close as well.  These temperatures are not arbitrary.  Each ride manufacturer comes up with a temperature based on the materials used in the rides.  For example, hydraulics can freeze and moving parts can have difficulty doing their thing.  Roller Coasters will experience more friction in the wheels when the temps drop.  Flat rides that operate with only motors are less likely to close in cold temps.  So, since Dollywood is open in colder months, it has a list of the rides and the temps in which they operate, so let's dig into that!

Click on image to see full size version.  Big Bear Mountain is not on this list, but it closes at 36-degrees.

Source:  Dollywood Rides & Attractions | Weather Guidelines | Dollywood Parks & Resorts

As you can see it's all pretty straightforward.  They have a note that a few rides cannot begin to operate for the day until the temperature reaches 40 degrees and those are Mystery Mine, Firechaser Express, Whistle Punk Chaser and Lemon Twist.  Everything else should be able to operate above the listed temperatures.

Some rides have really low temperatures, so if other rides are closed, you might want to turn your attention to these rides.  Blazing Fury is a good choice.  The Waltzing Swinger and the Black Bear Trail ride can operate until 23 degrees.  Drop Line can go all the way down to 5 degrees!

There are several rides not listed, like the Scrambler, Dolly's Demolition Derby Bumper Cars, Busy Bees, Dizzy Disk, Piggy Parade, Lucky Ducky, Mad Mockingbird, Rockin Roadway, Village Carousel and Dollywood Express.  The commonality here is that these rides operate with motors, so no worries about issues with freezing temps.

I've been at the park many times when the temperature dips and they begin the process of shutting down the rides. Typically, they make announcements about the temperature at each ride and then let everyone in the line take a final ride before they close it for the night.

Some notes about braking.... because we want rides to stop at some point. πŸ˜€ Most of the roller coasters and some flat rides at Dollywood operate with magnetic braking, which is foolproof in the event of a power failure, any weather or other interruption.  With magnetic braking you have no contact in between the brake itself and the train or ride vehicle, so they are extremely safe and in fact they are much smoother than the pinch-style brakes that became popular in the 70's until magnetic braking became the preferred industry standard around the year 2000.  If you want to learn more about magnetic braking, google Eddy Current Brakes.  You'll see that they're used in many types of environments outside of amusement parks.  At Dollywood, Thunderhead has its original pinch brakes and Whistle Punk Chaser may be the only other coaster without magnetic braking, but I am not positive.

It's now become a bit more common to see parks operate a longer season.  Growing up, my home park Opryland closed up from October to April and Dollywood did too until they started their Christmas season in 1990 or 1991 - which became a game-changer for them and the surrounding area.  Two Cedar Fair parks that operated in that same manner recently announced year-round operations (I have a blog post about that here), so it's becoming a bit more common to see parks operate in colder weather.  Of course, Florida rarely shuts down for cold temps, so it's a non-issue for the most part there...same for southern California.

Pro Tip:  Most folks know that Dollywood lists its Ride Wait Times on its app, but that only works if you are inside Dollywood.  If you're outside of Dollywood, you can still see the wait times!  How??  Well, go to this link to Queue-times.com to see.  Click Here for Dollywood's page.  If you dig around that website, you'll find other parks as well, so enjoy!

If you have any questions, ask them in the comments!

Until next time!

Dollywood's Smoky Mountain Christmas! Lot's of Helpful Information!

My Blog Post Title

 Hi Everyone,

It is time for Dollywood’s Smoky Mountain Christmas, and as usual, there is a lot to take in.  Dollywood’s Blog has been busy publishing all types of helpful information related to the festival, so I will recap it in this post.  Let’s Dig Into It!

First, we’ll look at everything going on in the park to decorate it, and then I’ll show you the blog post that has all of the food for the Tasting Pass!  As a bonus, I’ll share links to two more blog posts about how the park transforms from Harvest time to Christmas time! And we'll see how the DreamMore Resort celebrates Christmas! I will post any updates at the bottom of this article.

Dollywood’s Smoky Mountain Christmas:  Now with 6 Million Lights!

Dollywood Blog by Wes Ramey

Dollywood is always an amazing experience no matter the season. But for me, there is something a little more special when the park is decked out with more than 5 million lights…wait, check that. Sorry. There is something special about the park decked out with 6 million lights. Yes, you read that correctly. Our special events team is hard at work putting up an extra million lights throughout the park to bring the total number of shining, shimmering lights to 6 million as part of our popular Smoky Mountain Christmas presented by Humana (Nov. 5- Jan 1, 2023).

This event, which is the 14-time Golden Ticket winner of Best Theme Park Christmas event, shines brightly thanks to the warmth of those 6 million gleaming holiday lights, award-winning stage productions, Christmas culinary masterpieces and the warm family traditions so many guests have enjoyed throughout the festival’s 30 plus years.

Dollywood truly sparkles this Christmas season with new lighting elements throughout the park providing an element of surprise around every corner, even if you’re aboard the Dollywood Express. Visitors riding our guest-favorite attraction will enjoy a special light show draped across the field located inside the train’s upper turning loop. Another new lighted area is the Village Pass, which features a 130’ light curtain wall that includes programmed movement. This area leads from lower Craftsman’s Valley to The Village. Adventures in Imagination shines in pink, platinum and gold decorations—as well as 60 LED butterflies and a new 20’ ft. tall Christmas tree—in an area fittingly called Dolly’s Christmas.

You’ll also find hundreds of additional lighted trees throughout the park this year, as well as more new dΓ©cor elements and eight different light zones to provide each area of Dollywood its own unique look and feel.

(note that this has been cancelled for the year) Returning this year on Friday and Saturday evenings is the “Merry & Bright!” fireworks display, which provides a sparkling ending to the day. “Merry & Bright!” lights the sky above Dollywood with a display set to the rhythm of upbeat contemporary holiday hits. After Christmas, the music changes to help guests get ready to ring in the new year. Additionally, the New Year’s version of the show takes place nightly Dec. 26- Jan. 1.

In one of the most unique experiences during the Christmas season at Dollywood, Old Saint Nick allows kids (and kids at heart) a sneak peek into his little cabin in the Smokies. Guests who visit Santa’s cabin can literally see inside as he reviews…the list! Kids discover whether their names are on the naughty or nice list, and they might even have their photo made as they peer through the window during this once-in-a-lifetime chance to catch Santa at work. Santa goes on a well-deserved vacation after Christmas Day, so families wanting to see him in action shouldn’t wait!

Glacier Ridge fills Dollywood’s Timber Canyon, Wildwood Grove, Wilderness Pass and Upper Craftsman’s Valley with an expansive arctic experience sure to inspire and delight guests. Wilderness Pass serves as one of the highlights of Glacier Ridge thanks to the Wonderful Christmas! Plaza Tree Show, which features a 50-ft. tall animated tree sparkling to life to present a fully-synchronized, dazzling light show throughout the evening. Each show is capped by an immersive snow finale!

Dollywood’s family favorite shows light up both indoor and outdoor stages. The festival’s headline show, “Christmas in the Smokies,” has been a must-see for families every Christmas season since it began in 1990. Many other Dollywood Christmas classics return including “‘Twas the Night Before Christmas,” “O’ Holy Night,” “Christmas with the Kingdom Heirs,” “Heart of the Holidays,” “Candlelight Carolers,” “The Mistletones,” “Appalachian Christmas with the Smoky Mountain String Band,” “Holiday Wild Roots” and more.

If you’re looking for food (like me!), our team of chefs have a menu full of culinary surprises sure to delight. From herb-roasted turkey breast and citrus-glazed carved ham to chicken pot pie in a bread cone, there are a number of savory items to satisfy every appetite. A number of unique items abound including eggnog cupcakes, gingerbread-dusted funnel cake, holiday limeade and more.

As always, you can experience all of our world-class rides amidst the hustle and bustle of the park during the holidays, as most rides are operational during the Christmas season. Nothing compares to racing quickly through the night sky with millions of lights twinkling below.

It doesn’t matter what makes Christmas special for you, Dollywood is the place to make once-in-a-lifetime family memories this holiday season.

On to the Food!

So Many Culinary Choices with Dollywood’s Holiday Tasting Pass

Dollywood Blog by Ellen Liston

When I think of favorite childhood Christmases, they always involve food. Baking sugar cookies with my mama with all the feels and sprinkles. The amazing aroma and warmth of chili on a chilly Christmas Eve after the candlelight service at church. My grandmother’s kitchen on Christmas Day, helping her take her amazing homemade rolls out of the oven and waiting until dessert for her homemade pumpkin and mincemeat pies.

These days, I’m making new memories involving my favorite foods at Dollywood’s Smoky Mountain Christmas, thanks to the amazing talents of the award-winning culinary team. I’m even more excited about this year’s festival food because we’ve added a holiday tasting pass that will allow me to try not one, not two, but five festival tastes and treats while walking among Dollywood’s 6 million Christmas lights! For one price, festival goers can choose from a wide variety of treats, sweets, meats and more from throughout Dollywood’s amazing array of eateries – all with a special holiday flavor. Literally, I can’t think of a better Christmas present to give myself!

Let’s get started on what we can choose from. And life is short, so we’re beginning with dessert options. I’m super excited that many of my sweet treat choices are in the gingerbread family: a gingerbread funnel cake, ice cream in a gingerbread cone, and gingerbread churros with a side of peppermint eggnog dipping sauce. Pick from eggnog, hot chocolate or sugar cookie cupcakes, and holiday-inspired iced sugar cookies also are among the satisfyingly sweet options at the bakery. Want even more in the sweet department? Try the holiday ice cream sandwich with your choice of ice cream between Belgian waffles, dipped in chocolate and topped with a peppermint crumble crust. Yes, please!

Now on to some hot and hearty selections that are part of the holiday Tasting Pass options. There are so many delicious dishes – it’s going to be hard to choose, but I think I’m going to have to start with several poultry specialties. The Christmas Toastie Sandwich combines roasted turkey pot roast, stuffing, Brussels sprouts and Swiss cheese on a delicious roll. Then, there’s Dollywood’s Southern-style chicken pot pie served in a homemade bread cone, chipotle turkey nachos, and the turkey campfire skillet. Maybe I’ll add a side of pot roast fries – these literally sound like the best combination of flavors I can think of for any season!

πŸ‘„

Want to add some sizzle for a perfect warm holiday meal? One of the specialty skillets combines candied pork belly, white potatoes, onions and peppers, while another combines the savory taste of a sweet Italian sausage rope with red and white skillet-style potatoes, onions and peppers.

Soup and salad more your thing? Dollywood has menu items for that!  Loaded creamy potato soup overflows with the tastes of chive, cheddar and bacon, while Bush’s three-bean chili features a trio of cannellini, kidney and pinto beans with ground beef and a cornbread crumble on top. Shake up your meal choices with the holiday shaker salad – a flavorful mix of Arcadian style greens, almonds, cranberries and Feta cheese topped with pomegranate maple vinaigrette.

All that food is sure to make you thirsty, and there are options on the holiday tasting pass menu for that, too. Spice up your Dollywood day with holiday limeade or enjoy a tangy cranberry orange drink. Sounds like a perfect complement to basically anything else I can taste while on my Smoky Mountain Christmas culinary experience.

If you’re planning a trip to Dollywood’s Smoky Mountain Christmas, getting several tasting passes for the family is a great way to go. Then you can try all kinds of different things and decide what your favorites are. You can get them on our website or at many food locations when you arrive at the theme park; it comes on a lanyard to wear around your neck, so it’s easy to use and is a fun souvenir!

Now back to one of the hardest parts of my Christmas to-do list this year – figuring out which five items I’m going to try on my holiday Tasting Pass. Wonder if I can buy one for my husband and get to choose 10? Wish me luck with that idea – and happy holiday dining, y’all!
